During a recent edition of Grilling JR, Jim Ross and Conrad Thompson revisited PAC’s 30-minute Iron Man clash with Kenny Omega from a February 2020 AEW Dynamite broadcast. When the conversation turned to the difficulty of executing an Iron Man match on weekly television, Ross immediately pointed to the April 2007 Monday Night Raw main event in London between Shawn Michaels and John Cena. Though not officially billed as an Iron Man contest, the bout stretched nearly 60 minutes.
On the Best Iron Man Match He Called
“Damn right, no doubt about that,” Ross said. “The best Iron Man match I can recall calling off the top of my head was Shawn Michaels and John Cena. I think it was in the UK, on a Monday Night Raw. It was an instant classic. Instant classic.”
On What Made The Match Work
“It was really good,” he continued. “They told a great story, and they maintained their intensity and kept the crowd with them while doing it all. It was textbook. So if you’re looking for a textbook, check that one out.”
