John Paris of Earth, Wind & Fire Placed in Induced Coma Amid Medical Emergency

John Paris, drummer for Earth, Wind & Fire, was placed in an induced coma following a critical medical emergency earlier this month.

The 58-year-old drummer was hospitalized on August 6, just before the band’s scheduled performance with Lionel Richie at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

The concert was canceled minutes before its start, with the group citing a “medical emergency involving a band member.”

Paris’s family shared an update on Facebook, stating he was placed in a coma for stabilization while receiving medical care.

“From the start, Kathy and their daughter Kyla have been by his side,” the statement read. “Eddie M, a close friend, has also visited daily, offering support and prayer.”

Paris briefly regained consciousness, asking, “Where’s Kathy?” before humorously remarking, “Get me outta here man!” upon seeing his wife.

Though a temporary moment of clarity provided hope, doctors soon re-sedated him to allow his body to stabilize.

The family confirmed: “John’s journey is ongoing. There is significant hope for his recovery.”

The band resumed touring two days after the canceled San Francisco show, with Sonny Emory temporarily replacing Paris on drums. The rescheduled San Francisco performance is set for September 26.
