San Diego Comic-Con saw Johnny Depp embodying Ebenezer Scrooge at the Gas Lamp district before interrupting the Directors on Directing panel with the trailer for *Ebenezer*, a Ti West-directed holiday film set for November 13.
Depp’s performance was immersive, with his dialogue obscured by intentional mumble. He later handed a candle to director John Francis Daley during the panel, quipping, “Have you no lives? No responsibilities?”
The trailer presents a dark, period-infused gothic version of Scrooge, featuring Depp’s comedic physicality—sinking in bed, throwing snowballs. Early scenes reveal references to his past roles like Jack Sparrow and Edward Scissorhands.
The film features Ian McKellen, Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, and Daisy Ridley. Adapted from Charles Dickens’ classic by Nathaniel Halpern.
