Jos Buttler Highlights Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Historic 11-Ball Half-Century in India A Triumph]
England wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler has praised India’s emerging talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi following the 15-year-old’s exceptional performance for India A in the Tri-Nation series final in Sri Lanka.
Sooryavanshi captured global attention with his record-breaking 11-ball half-century, the fastest ever recorded in List A cricket history. The southpaw scored 94 runs off just 28 balls, propelling India A to 377 for 9 in their 50-over innings against Sri Lanka A.
“First of all, he was involved in a heated post-match clash after India A’s Super Over defeat to Sri Lanka A. The 15-year-old exchanged a few words and briefly shoved a Sri Lankan player following reported sledging during the match. So the cricket authority stepped in quickly with warnings and disciplinary reviews following the incident, but he has instantly redeemed himself in the next game,” Buttler said, speaking on the “For the Love of Cricket” podcast.
The remarkable innings earned widespread acclaim from cricketing veterans, with Buttler comparing it to extraordinary achievements of the past. “But he has instantly redeemed himself. In the next game, he hit an 11-ball 50 for India A, the fastest half-century in the history of List A 50-over cricket. So he’s at it again. It’s something we’ve never seen before, and he’s worrying how many records and things he keeps ticking off so quickly,” Buttler added.
Sooryavanshi’s stellar form has resulted in his inclusion in India’s senior squads for upcoming fixtures against Ireland and England, making him the youngest player ever selected for the national team, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record.
