Australian singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin has announced her new album, The Gem, the follow-up to 2022’s Pre Pleasure. The record is due September 25 via 4AD and arrives with the first single, “Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon).”
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life,” Jacklin said in press materials. “The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging. I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something.”
The Gem takes its title from a pub and live music venue in Melbourne, where Jacklin moved from Sydney in 2017. She and her band recorded the album in a hotel room converted into a studio space directly above the bar. Jacklin will tour The Gem across North America and Europe from October through early 2027.
