Julian Alvarez has told ESPN that he wants to leave Atletico Madrid and pursue his “dream move,” which is widely understood to be a transfer to FC Barcelona.

Speaking after Argentina’s World Cup win over Austria, the Argentine forward said he had spoken with club officials and believed a move would be best for all parties, adding that he is an honest person and wants to fulfill his dream.

Alvarez emerges as Barcelona’s top target

Alvarez, who came off the bench for Argentina in the 2‑0 victory, is a known supporter of the Blaugrana and aims to emulate his idol Lionel Messi at the Spotify Camp Nou.

According to Argentine media, Alvarez had agreed a five‑year contract with Barcelona, but the Catalans must meet a reported €100 million (£85 m) price tag set by Atletico.

Real Madrid also pursued the player, with President Florentino Perez launching a club‑record €175 million bid that was rejected by Atletico. Barcelona views Alvarez’s public declaration as a significant step that could pressure the Spanish side into accepting a offer.

Transfer expert Matteo Morreto (MARCA) suggests a package around €140 million could persuade Atletico to sell a player who no longer wishes to play under Diego Simeone.

Besides Barcelona, Alvarez is being monitored by other top clubs, including Arsenal of the Premier League and Paris Saint‑Germain, the recent Champions League winners over Barcelona.
