League of Legends’ virtual K-pop group K/DA has released its first new song in six years, marking Madison Beer’s departure from the project.

Formed around League of Legends champions, K/DA debuted with the single “Pop/Stars” in 2018 before releasing the All Out EP in 2020. During that run, i-dle members Miyeon and Soyeon voiced Ahri and Akali, while Madison Beer provided Evelynn’s vocals and Jaira Burns sang as Kai’Sa.

After six years away from music, K/DA returned on Monday, October 19, with the comeback single “Firestarter” and a new lineup. Miyeon and Soyeon have resumed their roles as Ahri and Akali, Sophie Powers replaces Beer as Evelynn, and Mimi Webb takes over as Kai’Sa.

K/DA is not the only virtual League of Legends band revived by Riot Games this month. True Damage returned two weeks ago with the New York drill-inspired “Know My Name,” which will also serve as the anthem for the 2026 World Championship.

Riot Games’ Alex Shahmiri said the virtual groups are intended to explore the potential of music and video games working together. “We’ve seen and appreciated how players love Riot’s music, to the point that it’s a joke that Riot’s really a music company fronting as a games company. We know that with every music release there are high expectations and while we might not always get it right, it’s something we put a lot of care into,” he told NME.

“There’s a lot of excitement around how we can better serve players with music, so I’m excited to see what we can cook up in the next few years. I think the possibilities are endless because we still have barely scratched the surface on what this alternate universe can be.”
