The KSE‑100 index rebounded from early declines on Tuesday, driven by selective purchases of blue‑chip and cyclical stocks. However, the market faced resistance around the 178,000‑point level.
The Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE) closed higher, with the benchmark KSE‑100 Index advancing 404.02 points (0.23%) to finish at 177,370.71 points.
Trading was volatile for most of the session, with the index recovering from early weakness as investors selectively bought across key sectors. Nonetheless, caution prevailed as the market struggled to break through the 178,000‑point barrier.
Market activity pointed to a cautious approach, with participants focusing on blue‑chip and cyclical stocks. The index’s inability to surmount the 178,000‑point level suggests a range‑bound short‑term trajectory.
Leading the rally were United Bank (UBL) and MEBL, along with FFC, HBL and LUCK, whose shares added roughly 667 points to the KSE‑100. Conversely, OGDC, Engro (ENGROH) and Sysco (SYS) weighed on the index, subtracting about 201 points.
Trading volume remained robust, with a total of 644.8 million shares changing hands and a combined value of approximately PKR 31.4 billion, reflecting continued investor interest despite the cautious tone.
The index’s recovery from early losses highlighted buying interest at lower levels, yet the inability to decisively breach the 178,000‑point mark underscored lingering investor caution.
Looking ahead, market direction is likely to hinge on investor sentiment. Continued selective buying in fundamentally strong equities may provide ongoing support to the benchmark.
