Katie Dey Ends Three-Year Hiatus with New LP universal will; Stream “for you”

For the first time in three years—discounting a rarities collection from last year—Melbourne digital pop creator Katie Dey is preparing to conclude her album drought. Her next full-length release, universal will, arrives in just four weeks. While the project remains largely shrouded in mystery across Bandcamp, Instagram, and her official site, the lead single “for you” has been released and is a remarkable effort.

The track intensifies compared to Dey’s earlier work, opening with driving drums and electric guitars before widening into a near-epic structure over the course of more than five minutes. A clear lineage to her previous catalog remains, particularly in the lyrics, which string together vivid, at times unsettling imagery. A standout moment is the line “not a person just a bundle of data points.”
