Khaldoon Al Mubarak Maintains Club’s Innocence Despite Premier League Rule Violation Verdict

Khaldoon Al Mubarak has asserted that Manchester City will successfully demonstrate its innocence following the Premier League’s ruling that the club violated its financial regulations.

It was disclosed on Friday that the club was found guilty of the overwhelming majority of the 115 charges brought by the Premier League. These accusations pertain to a series of rule breaches occurring between 2009 and 2018, which include allegations that sponsorship funds were not remitted by the designated companies and that undisclosed payments were made to players and personnel.

Throughout the proceedings, the club has steadfastly maintained its innocence. On Friday, officials emphasized that a final verdict had not yet been formally issued, and an appeal is anticipated. In an official statement to fans via the club’s website, Al Mubarak expressed his conviction that the legal process still has a long way to go and will ultimately conclude with the club being exonerated.

“Following the media reports from Friday, many of you spent the evening fielding questions and responding to messages from friends, family, and colleagues,” he stated. “I did as well. Here is what I conveyed to my family: The Premier League process remains far from over, and our determination to prove the club’s innocence is as resolute as it was at the outset.”

“There are numerous details I wish I could share to help you understand the basis for our confidence. However, the strict confidentiality of the legal proceedings and our commitment to respecting them mean I am unable to disclose them at this time. Even this communication underwent multiple legal reviews to ensure compliance.”

Al Mubarak went on to suggest that the club was being deliberately undermined. This followed an initial response in which the club stated it expected the Premier League board and executive to “behave as an independent, impartial, and fair-minded regulator, free from partisan influence.”

Al Mubarak stated: “While some have rushed to judgment, and there is considerable noise surrounding our club, nothing has fundamentally changed. We have faced challenges before and have overcome them. There are those who wish to disrupt our momentum, but we will not allow that to happen.”

More than twenty-four hours after the initial reports emerged, the Premier League had not made an official announcement regarding what it considers a private matter. Upon receiving the final verdict from the independent panel, which convened between September and December 2024, the club will have a 14-day window to file an appeal. Premier League regulations dictate that any appeal must be heard within a maximum of five days, with a final decision rendered within twelve weeks.

Should a guilty verdict be upheld following an appeal, the panel retains the authority to impose a combination of sanctions, which may include fines, suspensions, points deductions, or outright expulsion from the Premier League.
