The first October Test at Kingsmead Cricket Ground began at 09:30 local time in Durban. The venue, located on South Africa’s eastern coast, experiences sunset shortly after 18:00 during this month.

On day one, play was suspended at 15:23 local time as clouds gathered over the ground. Only 65.2 overs of the scheduled 90 were bowled, leaving the match unable to resume.

Day two saw play continue until 16:25, yet this was still 35 minutes earlier than the scheduled conclusion. On day three, the final session ended at 16:31.

Each day featured hot, sunny conditions during the first two sessions, with clouds developing in the afternoon—a recurring weather pattern for Durban.

“Very quickly in the morning, as temperatures have risen inland as the sun heats the ground, a sea breeze has formed with winds coming from the sea into Durban,” said Chris Fawkes, BBC weather presenter. “This has increased humidity levels through the morning and brought some cloud in. As temperatures have started to fall again towards the evening, this has increased the relative humidity with the air getting increasingly saturated. That has caused the cloud to get thicker and lower.”
