Fans of The New Level may have noticed the absence of Austin Creed and Kofi Kingston during this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, especially given their ongoing storyline on the show. The reason for their absence turned out to be a positive one unrelated to wrestling narrative developments.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kofi Kingston and Austin Creed sat out the October 21 episode to attend the wedding of their longtime friend and former WWE colleague, Big E. The former WWE Champion married Kris Yim, sister of WWE star Mia Yim, in an intimate ceremony surrounded by family and friends.
Despite their careers taking them to different wrestling promotions, the three performers have maintained a strong friendship forged during their time together in The New Day during their WWE years.
In their absence, Swerve Strickland represented The New Level in a backstage segment with the new AEW World Trios Champions, Hangman Adam Page and Brodido, following The New Level’s recent title loss. Strickland requested a rematch at Full Gear, which Page accepted. However, Strickland then shifted tactics, referencing their shared history and proposing Texas Death match rules, a suggestion Page ultimately declined after recognizing Strickland’s underlying intentions.
