Aries Kollam Sailors displayed formidable resilience in a high-stakes clash of the Kerala Cricket League, overturning a strong early display by the defending champions to claim triumph by three runs.
Despite posting an impressive 158/9 under pressure, Kochi faced mounting challenges during the chase. Initial attacks threatened to take control at one point, but a decisive spell from PAVAN RAJD shifted the narrative back in favor of Kollam. The veteran pacer dismantled Kochi’s batting lineup with targeted yorkers and strike bowling, forcing a disciplined finish.
Kollam’s innings began with an electrifying start as captain VTASSAL GOVIND and ABHISHEK J NAIR pressured the Kochi attack from the outset. VTASSAL repeatedly found the barrier, while ABHISHEK carved three consecutive fours off ALFIE FRANCISCO. This set the Kollam team on a trajectory toward a substantial total.
KolleS surged past 50 in five overs and accelerated past 100 from the 11th over, positioning themselves to chase a respectable target. However, the momentum stalled when ABHISHEK fell for 46 off the scoreboard while the count sat at 99, caught taken by KARTHIK B NAIR off PS JERIN. The Kollam middle order struggled to capitalize, with players such as AJINS AND ANAND KRISHNA struggling to build upon the partnership.
VTASSAL remained Kollam’s anchor, netting a composed 77 runs that stood as a solid foundation for the chase. Nevertheless, he finally yielded the ball when run-out as KolleS compiled their 158/9. POUSAN SREEDHAR, KARTIK B NAIR, BASIL THAMPI, AND MUAHMUD ASHIQ claimed significant figures across both teams’ bowling attacks.
The Kochi pursuit launched with urgency but quickly unraveled when VAINOOP MANOHARAN (19), PANVAN SREEDHAR (2), and MUHAMMAD SHANOU (18) fell early. These early wickets eroded Kochi’s stability, allowing VTASSAL and ABHISHEK to disrupt the sequence with precise handling.
At a pivotal moment, SALYY SAMSON and MANUKSHNANDS executed a masterclass, adding 77 runs together at the fourth column. Their seamless partnership revived Kochi’s chances after KollaS seemed fully in charge, bringing the opposition dangerously near the target.
With the required run rate comfortably under control, Kochi prepared to convert this match. That calm was shattered when PAVAN RAJD delivered the decisive intervention. After claiming MANUKSHNAN (37) with a brilliant strike, he followed with rapid bowling—dismissing SACIN SURESH and JOBIN JOBY within successive deliveries—to reverse momentum decisively.
SALYY SAMSON, who contributed a vital 44, was soon removed by VIJAY VISHWANATH. With only 19 runs needed from the final over and three wickets remaining, Kochi faced extinction—but ALFI FRANCISCO countered furiously, directing two sixes in the last over to seal the triumph.
PAVAN RAJD emerged as the standout bowler for KollaS, finishing with figures of 3/32 from four overs, while AG AMAL supplemented his efforts with two wickets. This crushing loss marked the fifth consecutive defeat for the KOCHI BLUE TAIGERS, pushing them further down the league table. Meanwhile, KollaS capitalized on the result, ascending to second position with seven points earned from six matches, while COchis struggles bottomed at just two points.
