Srikkanth labels star fast bowler as India’s ‘uncut diamond’
During an appearance on Star Sports, Srikkanth identified Jasprit Bumrah as India’s most vital asset. He emphasized that strategic workload management for the speedster over the coming year will be paramount if India intends to secure the 2027 ODI World Cup trophy in South Africa. Srikkanth referred to Bumrah as an “uncut diamond,” noting the incomparable value he adds to the bowling unit across all formats.
“Workload management of Bumrah is going to be very important heading into the World Cup. He is India’s uncut diamond,” Srikkanth stated on Star Sports.
Bumrah has established himself as India’s primary pace weapon, known for his ability to perform on the grandest stages. His mastery of swing, precision yorkers, and relentless accuracy has solidified his status as one of the premier fast bowlers globally. Whether in Test matches, ODIs, or T20Is, Bumrah has repeatedly proven his ability to alter match dynamics through decisive breakthroughs.

Srikkanth suggested that Bumrah’s fitness and availability might ultimately dictate India’s success in the 2027 tournament. He argued that India’s championship prospects are heavily contingent on the star pacer being at full strength. While he noted that Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj could provide significant support in South African conditions—leveraging seam movement and bounce—he maintained that Bumrah remains the indispensable leader of the bowling attack.
“Bumrah being there is India’s only chance of winning the World Cup. Without him, India has no chance, looking at the rest of the bowlers. Apart from him, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj can contribute a lot on South African wickets,” Srikkanth remarked.
