ISLAMABAD: This week, a U.S. congressional delegation visiting Pakistan commended the nation’s leadership for its mediation in the Iran conflict and its constructive involvement in Gaza, expressing optimism about deeper bilateral ties.
Pakistan–U.S. relations have markedly strengthened during President Donald Trump’s second term. Islamabad emerged as a key mediator between Washington and Tehran after hostilities erupted between the two nations in February, and it continues to work with both governments toward another cease‑fire as fighting resumed earlier this month.
During a tour of the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, Congressmen Michael Baumgartner and Ryan Zinke discussed bilateral ties. Both representatives are in Pakistan to meet with senior officials and foster people‑to‑people exchanges between the United States and Pakistan.
“We were impressed by Pakistan’s mediation between the United States and Iran, and by its constructive contribution to the Board of Peace in Gaza,” said Congressman Baumgartner in an interview with Pakistan TV in Islamabad on Saturday.
Pakistan became a member of the Board of Peace, an international body launched by President Trump in January to promote lasting peace and reconstruction in Gaza.
Congressman Zinke described the bilateral relationship as “never better.” He added, “I think President Trump and the field marshal and the prime minister get along well; they see each other, and I believe the relationship has never been better.”
Pakistan continues to pursue peace efforts between the United States and Iran. Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Islamabad this week for talks with Pakistani government officials and the country’s chief of defense forces.
