Lahore authorities report a tragic incident where at least eight individuals lost their lives after a roof collapse in the Harbanspura area late Wednesday, per official statements released Thursday.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Capt Muhammad Ali Ijaz confirmed the fatalities via a statement from his office, indicating he was overseeing ongoing rescue operations at the incident site.
Rescue teams, including Rescue 1122 and district administration personnel, are actively clearing debris, while efforts continue to extract survivors trapped beneath the rubble.
Heavy machinery has been deployed to accelerate the recovery process, as per the official statement.
The DC mandated on-site officials to ensure the safe retrieval of all trapped individuals and has initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the structural failure.
This tragedy follows a similar incident in Lahore’s Kahna area one month prior, where a roof collapse at a tuition center resulted in 14 children’s deaths. Police later charged the owners and builders for allegedly adding excessive load via soil to a weakened roof.
Earlier in May, a classroom roof collapse in Dera Ghazi Khan’s private school killed four children and injured 20. An investigation revealed the collapse occurred during construction work for a building extension, with sand and bricks overloading the structure beyond its capacity.
