Lancashire’s Commanding Batting Performance Powers 39-Run Victory Over Nottinghamshire in Vitality Blast Opener
Lancashire delivered a stellar batting performance, posting 208 for 4, to secure a convincing 39-run victory against Nottinghamshire Outlaws in their opening Vitality Blast match at a sun-drenched Emirates Old Trafford.
Keaton Jennings, Matty Hurst, and Ben McDermott all reached fifties, spearheading Lancashire’s dominant display. McDermott’s brilliant unbeaten 63 off just 27 balls highlighted the innings, while Jennings surpassed his previous club record by reaching 2,000 runs for Lancashire in just 71 innings. Hurst’s 57, featuring four sixes over midwicket, marked his highest score of the season.
Chasing 209, Nottinghamshire suffered a dramatic collapse after a promising 58-run opening partnership between Joe Clarke and George Munsey. The innings crumbled when Clarke was dismissed by Tom Hartley’s first delivery after replacing the injured Jack Blatherwick, initiating a collapse of three wickets for 15 runs that severely dented their title ambitions.
Harry Singh, making his debut, faced a torrid time as his three consecutive dismissals accelerated Nottinghamshire’s downfall. Jack Haynes, Freddie McCann, and George Linde all fell to the young fast bowler before Hartley’s masterful 4 for 20 dismantled the lower order, removing Benny Howell and Joe Pocklington in successive deliveries during the 16th over.
Despite a fiery 39 from Dillon Pennington, Nottinghamshire could only manage 169 for 9, with Saqib Mahmood capturing his 50th T20 wicket for Lancashire in the final act.
