Defending Formula 1 champion Lando Norris believes that clinching his first world title has fundamentally transformed him into a more composed and self-assured driver.
During an appearance on the F1 Beyond The Grid podcast, the McLaren driver elaborated on the psychological transition that occurred after his championship triumph. After dedicating his entire professional career to reaching this pinnacle, Norris noted that achieving his ultimate goal has provided him with a renewed sense of self-belief.
When questioned whether the championship has made him a more capable and confident competitor, the McLaren driver responded: “Yeah. Both of those, really. When people ask what has changed since winning the championship, it’s simply those two things. I feel more relaxed because I spent 20 years striving for one specific goal, and I have achieved it.”
“I feel a sense of peace knowing my journey led to that moment, and I am incredibly happy that I succeeded. I am proud of myself for reaching that milestone alongside the team and everyone supporting me.”
“When I am relaxed, my confidence naturally increases. Winning the championship last year has provided an underlying layer of confidence that I can now rely on.”

“I can look back and remind myself, ‘You overcame much greater challenges last year,’ or, ‘You navigated much tougher periods and emerged victorious.’ I have essentially built a foundation of resilience to lean on when necessary.”
“Last year, I didn’t have that internal foundation; I had to rely heavily on specialists and external support systems. At the start of that season, I lacked that self-assurance as a driver.”
“But now, I have built my own psychological stronghold through this achievement. I have my trophy to serve as a reminder, which is an invaluable asset for maintaining confidence.”
