Leeds United have finalised the acquisition of defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach for a fee rising to £8.5 million.
The 29-year-old Swiss international reunites with head coach Daniel Farke, under whom he played during the 2022-23 Bundesliga season. The agreement comprises an initial £6.8 million payment supplemented by £1.7 million in performance-related add-ons.
Elvedi departs the German club after an 11-year tenure, having amassed 364 appearances. A mainstay for his country, he has collected 73 caps and featured for every minute of Switzerland’s run to the World Cup quarter-finals.
This move represents Leeds’ fourth summer signing, following the arrivals of James Trafford, Harry Wilson, and fellow centre-back Tarik Muharemovic. Elvedi’s addition has facilitated Sebastiaan Bornauw’s departure to Hamburg on a season-long loan.
In a separate development on Wednesday, striker Joel Piroe completed a season-long loan switch to West Ham United. Leeds commence their Premier League campaign with a trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday (15:00 BST).
