The NWSL’s 2026 regular season has seen record-breaking moments, and now the league welcomes back a key figure to its newest chapter. Denver Summit has officially added U.S. Women’s National Team captain Lindsey Heaps to its roster, making her available for this weekend’s clash with Portland Thorns FC.
Heaps, a Colorado native, joins the Summit after a five-season stint in France, where she earned 10 trophies, including the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League. Previously, she played six seasons with Portland, scoring 31 goals in 105 games and winning the 2018 NWSL MVP award. Her homecoming is poised to energize the team, which is currently in 10th place—four points from the playoff line.
Coach Nick Cushing emphasized Heaps’ leadership potential: “Her world-class talent and arrival could be the catalyst we need to turn our season around.” Heaps echoed this sentiment, stating, “I’m thrilled to return to Colorado and join a club that represents something special for our community.”
Denver’s early season promise has slowed recently, with two consecutive draws against Kansas City and Houston. Cushing acknowledged challenges: “We’ve gifted opponents moments in key games. We must be sharper and more deliberate.” Heaps’ addition offers a chance to stabilize the team’s attacking play.
The match will be part of a CBS NWSL doubleheader, followed by Bay FC vs. North Carolina Courage at 4 p.m. ET. Fans can watch Denver vs. Portland at 2 p.m. ET at Centennial Stadium, Colorado.
