Lionel Messi reached a major career milestone by scoring his 100th goal for Inter Miami, while Casemiro added a second to secure a 2-0 victory over Cruz Azul and claim the Campeones Cup.
Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading in a cross from Luis Suárez to reach his 100th goal in 115 appearances across all competitions for the club.
Interestingly, the milestone was achieved against the same opponent Messi faced in his dramatic debut for Inter Miami in July 2023, when a stoppage-time free kick secured a 2-1 win over Cruz Azul.
Casemiro doubled the lead in the 81st minute, heading in a corner delivered by Messi.
The Brazilian midfielder has been in red-hot form, scoring four goals—all headers—in his last five matches following a run of three consecutive games with goals against CF Montréal, Atlanta United, and Chicago.
The victory marks the latest trophy in Inter Miami’s successful run since Lionel Messi joined the club three years ago, adding to their Leagues Cup title in 2023, Supporters’ Shield in 2024, and MLS Cup in 2025.
