<p>Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Catherine Lagaʻaia’s live‑action adaptation of Disney’s <em>Moana</em> is now available on digital streaming this week after a modest theatrical run.</p>
<p>The new live‑action Moana, released a decade after the original animated film, follows the adventurous heroine (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) as she sets sail beyond Motunui to save her island, accompanied by the demigod Maui, portrayed by Johnson.</p>
<p>Johnson reprises his role as Maui, while Lagaʻaia plays the title character. The cast also includes John Tui, Frankie Adams, Rena Owen, Amaya Masoli and Jemaine Clement, who returns to voice the giant crab Tamatoa.</p>
<p>The film earned $43 million in its opening weekend and has generated $126.1 million in North America, for a worldwide total of $315.4 million, against a $250 million production budget, surpassing the $150 million budget of the 2016 animated version, which worldwide grossed $684.3 million.</p>
<p>During Disney’s earnings call in early August, CEO Josh D’Amaro noted that despite the film’s underperformance at the box office, the investment in the franchise supports other areas of the company, citing the success of The Mandalorian and Grogu and the live‑action Moana.</p>
<p>D’Amaro expressed confidence that the live‑action Moana will perform well on Disney+, building on the enduring popularity of the original, which remains one of the most‑streamed movies of all time.</p>
<p>The live‑action Moana will first be offered for purchase through premium video‑on‑demand platforms on Tuesday, September 8.</p>
<h2 class="subhead-embed">Live‑Action ‘Moana’ Set for PVOD Release on Tuesday</h2>
<p>It will be available for $29.99 for purchase and $24.99 for a 48‑hour rental on services such as Apple TV, Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV.</p>
<p>Physical copies on 4K Ultra HD Blu‑ray, standard Blu‑ray and DVD will follow on October 6.</p>
