The Fed Cattle Exchange online auction opened without moving 2,000 heads, displaying bids from $218 to $220. Feeder‑cattle futures posted losses of 27 to 97 cents across front‑month contracts through Wednesday’s close, although selected later‑expiry options rose 92 cents toward $3. The CME Feeder Cattle Index slipped another $1.19 as of August 25, settling at $334.27.

Wholesale boxed‑beef pricing eased in the Wednesday PM review; the Chickasaw/Selected spreads tightened to $22.45 per hundredweight. Premium choice grades advanced $3.40 to $385.13, while select cuts gained $6.30 to $362.68. USDA estimates today’s federally inspected cattle slaughter at 105,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 310,000—a gain of one thousand head versus the prior week, yet still 35,746 below same‑period averages from last year.
