Liverpool are on the cusp of completing a permanent signing for Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo, with the Spanish club ready to negotiate an early transfer in the January window.
According to TEAMtalk, Barcelona have initiated talks with Liverpool to turn the Uruguayan’s loan deal into a permanent one, and negotiations are already underway.
Ronald Araujo could be an ideal defensive addition
Araujo has impressed since arriving at Anfield on loan, making 13 appearances and proving versatile in both right‑back and centre‑back roles. His physical presence, defensive awareness and experience have made him a key component of Arne Slot’s squad.
Liverpool are satisfied with his performances and are keen to retain him beyond the current season. The defender is also understood to be keen on staying on Merseyside, which could ease the talks.
Barcelona open to selling Araujo in January

Barcelona, meanwhile, are looking to raise funds and are open to selling Araujo earlier than planned. They see the departure as an opportunity to reinforce their own back line, with a left‑sided centre‑back a priority.
The two clubs are said to be discussing a fee in the region of £40‑45 million, potentially below the €55 million option clause attached to the loan.
Securing Araujo permanently would provide Liverpool with a dependable defensive option for the remainder of the campaign and beyond.
