According to TeamTalk, the Reds have identified Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite as a potential long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Liverpool bolstered their defensive options this summer by securing the loan of Ronald Araujo and the permanent signing of Jeremy Jacquet, both of whom have impressed during the early stages of the campaign.
Jacquet has firmly established himself at the heart of the defence, while Araujo has adapted remarkably well to the right-back position.
Despite these additions, the Merseyside club remains eager to strengthen their centre-back options and is expected to pursue a transfer for Branthwaite in the coming year.
While the Dutch captain continues to anchor the defence as an undisputed starter, the club acknowledges the necessity of planning for his eventual succession.
Branthwaite appears to be the perfect candidate to fill this void at Anfield, though there is currently no suggestion that Everton will consider selling him any time soon.
The English defender has fully committed himself to Everton following his injury struggles last season and is unlikely to force a move against the club’s wishes.
Elsewhere, Manchester United are also monitoring his performances closely.
