Mauricio Tapia, the musician behind Los Retros, has been charged with four felony counts of unlawful acts involving a child under the age of 10. He also faces special allegations, including claims that the victim was vulnerable and that he exploited a position of trust, according to the Siskiyou Daily News.
The 26-year-old was arrested on October 8 and booked into Ventura County Jail the following day, with bail set at $3 million. A court appearance is scheduled for October 22. Label Stones Throw announced that Tapia would no longer perform at its festival and that the company would cease working with him:
Yesterday we learned of extremely serious and disturbing allegations against Mauri Tapia, professionally known as Los Retros.
We had previously announced the cancellation of his scheduled performance at Stones Throw 30 before we were aware of these circumstances.
In light of this information, we are taking steps to disassociate ourselves from Tapia and his work.
We take these allegations extremely seriously and will continue to assess the situation as more information becomes available.
