Although a legal injunction permitted LSU to include former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris on its roster ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Clemson, the university ultimately chose not to do so before the Friday night deadline, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

With the current roster standing at 103 players, two vacancies remained available for Wright and Harris. Thamel noted that the university could still add the players later in the season.

This decision indicates that LSU carefully weighed the potential benefits against the costs of proceeding with the two former NFL players, particularly in light of the intense backlash from the SEC and the possibility of long-term repercussions with the conference and its member institutions.

The underlying sentiment was apparent in the subtext of the statement released on Friday by LSU President Wade Rousse.
