Yorkshire 193 (Lyth 52, Patterson-White 3-13) beat Nottinghamshire 175 (Haynes 37, Pennington 37, Tye 3-18) by 18 runs
Yorkshire secured their place in the Vitality Blast quarter-finals with an 18-run victory over North Group leaders Nottinghamshire Outlaws in a fluctuating encounter at Headingley. Defending a target of 194, the hosts ensured their progression to the final eight as the second-placed finishers. Depending on the outcome of the Essex vs. Surrey match, Yorkshire may enjoy a home quarter-final tie.Adam Lyth provided the momentum for Yorkshire with a blistering 52 off just 27 balls. His explosive innings helped propel the team to 193, supported by a clinical 3 for 13 spell from Liam Patterson-White’s left-arm spin.
Nottinghamshire’s chase began promisingly but quickly faltered. Despite contributions from Jack Haynes and Dillon Pennington, the Outlaws were bowled out for 175 in the 20th over. A crucial middle-order collapse saw the visitors slip from 32-0 to 56-4, with Joe Root claiming two wickets via his offspin.
Lyth’s rapid half-century, which included five sixes, initially saw Yorkshire reach 85 without loss within seven overs. However, Nottinghamshire fought back to reduce the total to 95-3 by the 10th over. The middle overs saw Yorkshire lose five wickets for just 17 runs, dropping to 159-8, though Logan van Beek’s late hitting helped the hosts reach a competitive total.
The Headingley surface proved difficult for batting, complicating the Outlaws’ pursuit. While George Linde (25) and Jack Haynes offered brief resistance, both were dismissed by Root. The momentum shifted decisively when Patterson-White dismissed another batter, leaving the visitors struggling at 107-7.
Despite late resistance from Benny Howell and Pennington, the veteran Australian seamer AJ Tye proved decisive, finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 18 to seal the win for Yorkshire.
