A new Madonna photo book titled Madonna: Into the Groove is scheduled for release in October. The volume will showcase previously unseen portraits by renowned rock & roll photographer Ken Regan, accompanied by essays from former Rolling Stone writer Tomás Mier.
Madonna: Into the Groove captures the singer in 1985, a pivotal year that included the Virgin Tour, a Live Aid performance, and her starring role in the comedy film Desperately Seeking Susan. The approximately 200‑page collection chronicles her transformation from a rising star to a global icon.
According to the press release, the book presents a diverse selection of photographs spanning intimate and public moments. These include images of Madonna in her studio and bedroom, at the gym, and on stage.
Ken Regan was among the most prolific photographers of the 20th century, beginning his career in the 1970s. His subjects ranged from rock legends such as Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Revue to historical events including the Kennedy family, the Vietnam War, and the Gulf War. Regan’s work was compiled in the 2011 book All Access: The Rock & Roll Photography of Ken Regan, and he passed away from cancer the following year.
Former Rolling Stone writer Tomás Mier, who contributed the book’s text, called the project “an absolute honor.” “I unfortunately never had the pleasure of meeting Ken, but through interviewing those who worked with him, I truly understand what made him such a visionary photographer: he approached his subjects with genuine empathy and respect,” Mier said. “These images are a perfect encapsulation of his talent, capturing the Queen of Pop at a pivotal, electric moment in her own career and in music history.”
Pre-orders for Madonna: Into the Groove are available now via Insight Editions/Simon and Schuster.
