In his debut for ONE Championship, Magomed Magomedov preserved his undefeated streak by clinching a split-decision victory against Lucas Gabriel in a lightweight MMA bout at ONE Fight Night 49.

The main event at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium on Friday night saw Magomedov compete with a flawless 15-0 record, having stepped in on short notice to replace the injured Alibeg Rasulov.

Gabriel entered the fight with an impressive 11-1 record and an undefeated streak in ONE Championship. However, as soon as the bell sounded, Magomedov aggressively pursued a takedown, successfully bringing Gabriel to the mat.

The second round mirrored this strategy, with Magomedov advancing swiftly to regain control on the ground.

This time, Gabriel showed improved resilience in the scrambles, effectively avoiding danger.

Once back on their feet, the 26-year-old Gabriel landed a head kick, forcing Magomedov to attempt another takedown, though he failed to secure it.

The third round took a dramatic turn as Magomedov initially secured a takedown and dominated Gabriel on the ground. Yet, the Brazilian fighter reversed the position in a scramble and unleashed a series of knees in the final stages.

Despite Gabriel’s late surge, it was not enough to claim victory, as two ringside judges scored the fight in favor of the undefeated Magomedov.

At 31 years old, Magomedov could now be in line for a title shot at the ONE lightweight MMA world championship.

This potential opportunity might involve facing the newly-crowned champion Tye Ruotolo, who won the belt by defeating Christian Lee at The Inner Circle 37 just hours before.
