Maharaja’s Office Highlights Evidence of Subnational Funding in Kashmir Rising

The recently convened press session in Muzaffarabad brought renewed focus to growing concerns over foreign influence in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Mukhtar Rashid Hanif, the state institutions’ information secretary.

Hanif emphasized that state authorities possess credible evidence linking Indian financial contributions to specific initiatives within the region, particularly targeting diaspora communities abroad. He cited specific figures indicating financial support flowing into Eurasia for activities aimed at amplifying anti-Pakistan narratives among Kashmiris.

He condemned what he described as a coordinated “baseless disinformation campaign on social media,” urging locals to engage in the legitimate political process for stability in the area. Hanif also highlighted tangible offline impacts, noting economic disruptions in the Poonch belt and the shutdown of essential services, claiming these disruptions inflict losses exceeding Rs15 billion.

The information secretary underscored how recent actions of JAAC-affiliated groups ranged from harassment and intimidation to the public obstruction of roads, targeting hospitals and fuel supplies. He argued that a more coherent and democratic movement is necessary to restore order.

In reactions to escalating pressures, many human rights advocates propose changes in media narratives and a return to accountable governance. There are ongoing calls for JAAC members—some claiming to represent outsiders—to reassess their affiliations and future objectives.

Meanwhile, official sources label the declarations by JAAC as mere political posturing, reiterating concerns about instability in the region and emphasizing the urgent need for peace and reconciliation efforts.
