Manchester United Eyes Third Midfield Addition Following Santos and Tielemans Signings

Manchester United’s midfield overhaul remains incomplete despite the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
While these signings add technical quality and Premier League experience for Michael Carrick, the club continues to seek a more athletic midfielder who can shield the defence and drive the ball forward under pressure.

Manchester United have been linked with Carlos Baleba, Manu Koné and Adam Wharton, although the eventual target will depend on each player’s price and availability.

Baleba and Koné feature on Man United list

According to sources close to player agents, as reported by CaughtOffside, United have expressed interest in Brighton’s Baleba.

The Brighton midfielder is reportedly open to a move to Old Trafford, with preliminary personal terms discussed last summer, although United have not yet tabled a formal offer.

United have officially completed the signings of Santos and Tielemans, bolstering a midfield that needed rebuilding after Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury.

Baleba remains an attractive target due to his power, mobility and Premier League experience, although Brighton’s high valuation poses a significant obstacle.

TalkSPORT indicates that United have enquired about Roma’s Manu Koné, whose price tag is estimated at around €60 million.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is also on United’s radar, though his likely fee would be substantial.

Why Manu Koné could be the most sensible choice for United

While Baleba boasts the most impressive physical attributes, Koné may present the more pragmatic option.

Santos excels at winning the ball and contributing defensively and offensively, whereas Tielemans adds passing range, creativity and leadership.

United still lack a midfielder capable of covering ground rapidly, withstanding pressure and advancing the ball through direct carries.

Baleba meets those criteria, but paying a premium after an inconsistent season would be risky.

Koné offers comparable energy, possesses experience in the Bundesliga, Serie A and at international level, and could be acquired for a more reasonable fee.

Wharton would enhance United’s deep-lying passing, but his probable cost renders him the least realistic target.

Unless Brighton lowers its asking price, Koné seems to offer the best balance of quality, affordability and tactical fit.
