Russia waged a drone campaign in Europe, report says
Russia is believed to have launched drones from vessels in international waters, causing repeated disruptions to civilian air traffic, as it monitored military sites and tested NATO air defenses, according to the International Institute of Strategic Studies think tank.
The report, shared with The Associated Press, detailed 144 suspected drone sightings across Europe between 2024 and 2026, including in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the U.K., and Denmark, with peak activity in late 2025.
This led to temporary closures of airports in Germany, Spain, and Denmark, as European air defenses struggled to counter the attacks.
