Every elite golf swing maintains a consistent plane, yet achieving that alignment can be challenging for many amateur players. This straightforward drill makes it easier.
All you need is a club, a ball, and two tees. Position yourself normally, then insert one tee into the ground roughly a foot behind the ball. Next, place the second tee into the butt end of your grip, extending a few inches outward.

Begin your backswing and pause when your lead arm is parallel to the ground — a position instructors refer to as P3. The tee placed in the grip must align directly with the tee set on the ground. If the grip’s butt points outward beyond the ground tee, the club is likely too shallow; if it points inward, the swing is too steep.
