Former AEW TBS Champion Maya World is expected to remain sidelined for several months as she recovers from an undisclosed surgical procedure.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, World is currently out of action following surgery that took place during the week of September 16. The specific nature of the procedure has not been made public. Her absence has subsequently impacted an ongoing storyline involving Persephone.
World was also forced to withdraw from previously scheduled independent wrestling appearances. Her most recent match occurred on the September 9 edition of AEW Dynamite, where she teamed with Thunder Rosa and Hyan in a losing effort against Britt Baker, Persephone, and Hikaru Shida.
Prior to her hiatus, World was featured in a program with Persephone and Baker stemming from the loss of the TBS Championship at AEW All In: London. Persephone captured the title in that contest after Baker returned to interfere, ending World’s reign at 35 days.
