McDonald’s Shift Manager in Critical Condition After Alleged Assault by Co-Worker
A 20-year-old McDonald’s shift manager in Yuba City, California, is in critical condition following a violent assault by a colleague, who allegedly hurled hot cooking oil at him, causing severe burns to 22% of his body.
Jacob Smith, a 20-year-old shift manager at a McDonald’s in Yuba City, was attacked while preparing to count money, according to his mother, Amber Smith. She described the incident to KCRA, stating, “He saw something in his corner of vision and turned, only to have oil poured on him.”
Jacob sustained second-degree burns across his face, neck, right arm, and back, requiring intensive care and multiple surgeries. Medical professionals have been unable to administer adequate pain relief due to the severity of his injuries, his mother revealed.
A separate incident involving a McDonald’s employee assaulting a customer over a dipping sauce is mentioned in the GoFundMe posts supporting Jacob’s recovery.
Jaillani Bluett, a 23-year-old co-worker, was identified as the suspect and arrested after evading police initially. Authorities noted Bluett was “at risk due to a diagnosis and vulnerabilities” during his apprehension.
Bluett faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon, mayhem, and felony assault. Yuba City Police Lt. Michael Bullard stated that Jacob’s medical specialist indicated skin grafts would be necessary for deeper burns.
Medical specialists have been unable to administer adequate pain relief due to the severity of his injuries, his mother revealed.
Jacob expressed gratitude toward his family, friends, and faith despite the ordeal, writing on his GoFundMe page, “Thank you to God for saving my eye and giving me awesome family and friends.”
