The Chicago White Sox, who were recently impacted by the injury of catcher Kyle Teel, have surfaced as a potential buyer of Mets backup catcher Luis Torrens. Despite that interest, the Mets have made it clear that Torrens is considered one of the game’s best defensive catchers, and the organization is reluctant to part with him.

Locked into a contract for next season at $4.75 million, Torrens is viewed by the Mets as a key component of their 2027 long‑term strategy, and they have indicated that they would rather keep him in their clubhouse than trade him away.

Other teams, such as the Los Angeles Dodgers, have been evaluating trade options—including the possibility of acquiring Tigers superstar Tarik Skubal—thanks to the depth of top‑100 prospects in their system. Nevertheless, the Dodgers have expressed confidence that key pitchers like Blake Snell, Shohei Ohtani, and Tyler Glasnow will return soon, making an additional starting pitcher unnecessary at this time.

Those teams remain wary that the Dodgers could intervene aggressively once Skubal’s status becomes clear, but the Mets’ commitment to Torrens appears firm, at least for the foreseeable future.
