QUETTA: The Balochistan government announced the appointment of Saira Atta as commissioner of the Lasbela division as part of a structural reorganization of provincial offices.
Prior to this role, Ms Atta served as secretary for women development at grade 20. Her promotion highlights a gender milestone, as she becomes the first woman to hold the Lasbela commissioner position in the province’s history.
The reshuffle also included transfers of senior officials, with Noor Ahmed Pirkani taking over as environment secretary, succeeding Bashir Ahmed Bangulzai. The latter has been reassigned to lead the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT). Meanwhile, Muhammad Ali Kakar, former CMIT chairman, will report to the Services and General Administration Department for new duties. Sher Shah Ghilzai has been named secretary for women development, replacing Ms Atta in that role.
Currently, both senior positions in Lasbela—commissioner and deputy commissioner—are held by women, with Humaira Baloch continuing as deputy commissioner. While five women have previously served as deputy commissioners across the province, only Baloch and Farida Tareen (in Sohbatpur) remain in active roles.
