Michael Owen has backed Liverpool for avoiding a reactive summer response after Curtis Jones completed his move to Inter Milan.
The 25-year-old was a useful squad option for the Reds, although he never became a guaranteed starter during his time at Anfield.
Liverpool allowed Jones to leave without securing an immediate replacement, and Owen believes that patience can sometimes be the correct approach.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, the former forward suggested the club may have acted sensibly by not rushing into a midfield signing when several homegrown players could provide depth.

Michael Owen’s view on Liverpool’s midfield moves
Addressing the absence of a new signing after Jones’ sale, Owen said: “There are a couple of good youngsters, and it is not the worst thing to trim your squad players and bring them through. You don’t want to block a pathway.
“I would not have thought they needed to buy squad players. If they can sign someone to come straight in, then fantastic, but I think the young players coming through are good enough.
“The difficult part for any club is that you try to strengthen and you need a really good player to become available to do that.
“I would be more concerned: how much do you want to spend? Just be concerned to get them purring again and let’s get them playing well again.”
What is next for Liverpool’s midfield?
Liverpool will likely need to make changes in midfield in the future, with Lamine Camara emerging as a linked target and questions remaining over Alexis Mac Allister’s long-term future.
Fabrizio Romano recently offered a detailed insight into Mac Allister’s summer, including his link with Manchester City before he stayed at Anfield.
