Michael Penix is set to start his first game since November in Thursday night’s contest against the Green Bay Packers, expressing enthusiasm about his return during a Tuesday press conference.
Penix previously indicated he was close to re-entering the lineup but not yet fully confident in his ability to play. Following a recent training session where his knee “responded good,” he confirmed his readiness after lingering soreness subsided and strength improved daily.
He emphasized that his return was not influenced by the team’s bye week or early-season struggles, stating, “Being healthy was what I was targeting. It wasn’t about week-to-week adjustments but ensuring full recovery and strength gains.” Penix added, “Once I felt healthy, it felt like I was ready to go. I’m never going to sit out if I’m healthy.”
Describing the decision to return as “very exciting,” Penix acknowledged the broader team’s anticipation, given the Falcons’ underwhelming start to the season and the potential boost his presence could provide to a struggling offense.
