The Cardinals placed left tackle Paris Johnson and linebacker Josh Sweat on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Thursday, but head coach Mike LaFleur indicated neither player is likely to miss much of training camp. Both players are dealing with knee issues, and the Cardinals plan to handle them conservatively early in the season.
LaFleur told reporters that the team will “be smart” with the players at this stage of the calendar. With four practice days scheduled before a Monday off, neither Johnson nor Sweat will participate in drills prior to that rest day, though LaFleur expressed confidence they will be back soon.
“It’s really just maintenance,” LaFleur said, via the team’s website, referring to Johnson. “He’ll be back before you know it. Same thing with Josh. He’s fired up to be here, in great spirits and feeling good.”
In addition to Johnson and Sweat, the Cardinals also placed cornerback Garrett Williams (Achilles) and tight end Tip Reiman (ankle) on the PUP list to open camp.
