Minister for Local Government and Auqaf Meena Khan Afridi visited the Tehsil Municipal Administration in Charsadda after social‑media reports surfaced alleging corruption within the authority.
He examined official records and directed the administration to launch a comprehensive inquiry into both financial and administrative matters, warning that strict action would be taken against any officials found complicit in corruption or misappropriation of public funds.
Meeting with current and former municipal staff, Afridi heard concerns over delayed salary and pension payments and assured the workforce that these obligations would be settled promptly.
Expressing concern over the TMA’s financial management, the minister questioned how the authority’s own revenue and provincial government grants were being utilized, and instructed the Secretary of Local Government to establish an inquiry committee to investigate the issue.
He ordered a review of long‑pending legal disputes involving roughly 300 shop cases remaining under stay orders, committing to resolve the matters in consultation with the Law Department.
In addition, the minister instructed tehsil municipal officers across the province to ensure essential civic amenities — such as parking spaces and functioning washrooms — are provided in commercial buildings.
