MobLand Season 2: An All-Out Gangster Spectacle Thrives
If the first four episodes of MobLand season 2 only say one thing, it’s that the gritty gangster-crime drama on Paramount+ has improved dramatically compared to its solid debut season. Creator Ronan Bennett (of The Day of the Jackal) and co-writer Jez Butterworth (of The Agency) showcase how MobLand fully embraces its title in season 2. This sophomore entry is a particularly gripping performance that executes with precision while emphasizing its heightened scale, expanded cast, and numerous shocking plot twists.
MobLand features a stellar ensemble led by Tom Hardy’s stoic fixer Harry Da Souza—a shadowy, composed, almost emotionless protagonist possessing superhero-level calm under pressure. Harry works tirelessly across London to protect the remnants of the Harrigan family dynasty, now headed by impetuously driven Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and cunning Maeve (Helen Mirren). After the events that concluded season 1, Harry faces a house fire alongside his frustrated wife Jan (Joanne Froggatt) and rebellious daughter Gina (Teddie Allen), forcing him into crisis mode while the younger generation—embodied by the self-destructive Kevin (Paddy Considine), ambitious Seraphina (Mandeep Dhillon), and defiant Eddie (Anson Boon)—each pursue their own personal stakes. This internal familial strife is only half the challenge, as larger-than-life external threats emerge to test everyone’s resolve.
