The most-capped BBL player in history, Moises Henriques, has announced his retirement from Australian domestic cricket, concluding a 15-season career with the Sydney Sixers. However, he will continue his cricketing journey with Portugal, his birth nation, as he becomes eligible to compete in World Cup qualifiers. At 39, Henriques retired from first-class cricket in March 2025 but remained active in List A cricket for New South Wales last summer, leading the Sixers to the BBL final in January. Despite not receiving a new contract with the franchise, he chose to conclude his career as a one-club player, declining offers from other BBL teams.
Henriques finished his BBL career with 154 matches across all 15 seasons, including appearances in finals during his debut and final years. He holds the record as Australia’s most decorated domestic player, with a combined 420 matches across first-class, List A, and T20 formats. His tally includes 110 first-class games for NSW, 112 List A matches, 38 T20s for NSW, and 38 Champions League games. A 2012-13 CL champions winner, he remains a pivotal figure in domestic cricket history.
His final international appearances came in 2021, amassing four Tests, 16 ODIs, and 24 T20Is for Australia.
“I’ve been fortunate to make cricket my career for 22 years,” Henriques reflected. “Although others offered opportunities, staying with this organization felt right. The relationships and camaraderie we’ve built are what made this journey meaningful. It’s time to retire and embrace a new chapter.”

BBL commissioner Alistair Dobson hailed Henriques as a trailblazer.
“A three-time champion and the league’s most-capped player, Moises’ influence extends beyond statistics. His integrity and passion shaped the BBL for 15 years. We thank him for his contributions and wish him success ahead.”
