] Moroccan Monarch Names Marrakech Mayor Fatima El Mansouri as Nation’s First Female Prime Minister

King Mohammed VI announced on Tuesday that he has designated Marrakech mayor Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as the nation’s first female prime minister, after her party won last week’s parliamentary election.

El Mansouri, who previously served as the kingdom’s minister of habitat, was greeted at the royal palace and assigned the task of forming the new government.

A former lawyer and member of the ruling Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), she becomes the second woman to serve as prime minister in the Arab world, following Tunisian leader Najla Bouden.

Her government is expected to secure multi‑billion‑dollar investments tied to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, while delivering on promises to combat inflation, raise incomes, and create employment.
