KARACHI — Justice Munib Akhtar, senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, took the oath as acting Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on Monday.
Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui of the Supreme Court administered the oath during a modest yet dignified ceremony.
According to a Supreme Court statement, incumbent CJP Justice Yahya Afridi is currently abroad. Consequently, Justice Akhtar will serve as acting chief justice for the duration of Justice Afridi’s absence.
The ceremony was attended by senior judges of the Supreme Court and members of the Federal Constitutional Court.
