Manager Ian Murray has departed Greenock Morton, leaving the club at the foot of the Scottish Championship.
Coach Bill Orr has also left Cappielow, and first‑team player Michael O’Halloran together with assistant manager Gary Miller will assume interim responsibilities.
Morton have earned just one point from their opening eight league matches, three points behind second‑bottom Queen’s Park, and are scheduled to host Raith Rovers on Saturday.
One of Morton’s sponsors is experiencing difficulties, which has impacted the club’s finances and recruitment this season.
The 45‑year‑old former Hibernian, Rangers and Scotland player Murray has previously managed Dumbarton, St Mirren, Airdrieonians and Raith Rovers, taking charge at Cappielow in January and securing four victories from 29 matches.
A club spokesperson confirmed: ‘The board of Greenock Morton Football Club can confirm that Ian Murray has been relieved of his duties as first‑team manager with immediate effect, and first‑team coach Bill Orr has also been removed from his position.’
‘We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to both Ian and Bill for their hard work, commitment and professionalism during their time at the club. Everyone at Morton wishes them the very best for the future.’
The club recognises the disappointment felt by supporters and understands the importance of the weeks ahead.
