My Chemical Romance is currently touring to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their iconic album The Black Parade. Known for their elaborate live performances, the band incorporated a staged shootout featuring impersonators of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders during shows at the Hollywood Bowl.
The actual Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, through their parent company Pro Silver Star Ltd., responded by filing a temporary restraining order and injunction against the band. The lawsuit argued that the performance could falsely imply endorsement by the cheerleaders and claimed that My Chemical Romance had ignored a cease-and-desist letter sent prior to the legal action.
My Chemical Romance has since agreed to stop using Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader lookalike uniforms in their live shows, according to TMZ. This move is notable given that legal experts, as cited by Billboard, suggested the parody might be shielded by First Amendment protections. The band’s decision may reflect a desire to avoid courtroom disputes.
In unrelated news, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have achieved a significant milestone by successfully unionizing.
