Myles Garrett, the standout outside linebacker for the Rams, has faced a challenging summer, missing the majority of training camp due to knee swelling. He was absent from practice on Tuesday but has recently rejoined the team, participating in sessions over the weekend and on Monday.
Coach Sean McVay has confirmed that Garrett is expected to play in the upcoming season opener, though the exact details of his involvement remain under wraps. It is widely anticipated that he may operate under a snap count, but no official word has been given.
Garrett avoided specifics about his physical readiness, emphasizing his preparedness for the game despite the reduced practice time. “I feel prepared for the season opener,” he stated, crediting his teammates for support. “Our defense is strong all around, which will make things easier. Even if I’m slightly off my usual form, I have ample backing.”
Garrett enters the season coming off a record-breaking year, where he set an NFL mark with 23 sacks and earned his second Defensive Player of the Year award. However, his time with the Browns was marked by team struggles, as they posted a 58-90 record with only two playoff appearances over nine seasons. Now, with the Rams, the stakes are significantly higher.
“The Super Bowl is the primary goal, along with winning Defensive Player of the Year again,” Garrett shared. “I want to maximize my potential and help our defensive line become truly exceptional. It’s about realizing our capabilities and avoiding any regrets after games, knowing we could have given more.”
