“Below Deck Mediterranean” star Nathan Gallagher has broken his silence following his December arrest in Australia on domestic violence charges, acknowledging he “made mistakes” while asserting that evidence exists to provide a fuller picture of the incident.
In a statement provided to Rolling Stone, Gallagher said his decision to speak publicly stems from a belief that the narrative surrounding his arrest has been one-sided. “I don’t believe the public has heard the full story surrounding what happened,” he stated, adding that public reports represent “only one side of what was an extremely complicated situation.”
New South Wales Police confirmed Gallagher was arrested last December at a Sydney-area apartment complex and charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally choking a person without consent, and common assault. While the police memo did not name the alleged victim, court records and Gallagher’s own statement indicate it was Gael Cameron, his former partner and fellow “Below Deck” cast member. Cameron has an Apprehended Violence Order application filed against Gallagher, with a hearing for both the criminal charges and the protective order scheduled for September 1.
Gallagher claims to possess contemporaneous video footage, messages, and other records from the night in question that he says offer important context. He also referenced undisclosed matters regarding the relationship’s breakdown, previous allegations made by Cameron about a former partner, and financial disputes over a Sydney apartment purchase. He emphasized his intention to present this evidence through legal channels rather than social media.
“I’m not claiming I was perfect. I wasn’t. I made mistakes and I will take responsibility for my own actions,” Gallagher wrote. “But I will not accept being portrayed solely through one person’s account of a relationship when there is another side and evidence relating to it.”
The bosun’s arrest comes as his current season of “Below Deck Mediterranean” airs on Bravo. The season, filmed last summer, features a storyline centered on Gallagher balancing his professional duties with his role as a new father to a son he shares with Cameron, who was living in Croatia during production.
Gallagher stressed that his primary concern is his child. “One day he will be old enough to see everything that has been said about his parents, and I don’t want his childhood turned into a public battle,” he said. “My priority is being recognised as his father, establishing a relationship with him and ultimately finding a way for both of us to move forward and co-parent peacefully.”
Representatives for Bravo and Cameron did not respond to requests for comment. Rolling Stone requested to review the evidence Gallagher referenced but did not receive a response prior to publication.
